A unique mixture of culture, tourism and retailing

A unique mixture of culture, tourism and retailing is currently being developed in the heart of the inner city of Koblenz. The development comprises a building complex made up of two parts. There was an inauguration ceremony of the Zentralplatz by the Koblenz City administration on 28/29 September 2012.

Forum Mittelrhein

The Forum Mittelrhein, a modern shopping centre, was opened on Zentralplatz on September 26, 2012

Forum Confluentes

An impressive highlight in the centre of the city – the new Forum Confluentes brings together art, culture and education under one roof and invites you to rediscover Koblenz. That’s because this architecturally exciting building is more than just a home for the Middle Rhine Museum, Romanticum and the municipal library – visitors can also enjoy the magnificent views out over the city to the Rhine and the Moselle from the large roof terrace. The forum also contains an attractive cultural café and tourist information centre with a gift shop, wine lounge and a large ticket office as well as the municipal theatre booking office.
Big opening: June 20!

Permanent, interactive exhibition

Discover the new interactive exhibition experience, bringing to life every fascinating aspect of the romantic Middle Rhine Valley over an area of 800 m². Take part in a fantastic journey through time as a steamship passenger and experience the pure romance of the Rhine up close while getting to know the river and its fascinating legends and myths. The interactive exhibition is housed in a new building that is a work of art in itself. The “Forum Confluentes” culture centre, designed by German-Dutch star architects Benthem-Crouwel, is considered to be an architectural masterpiece. As well as the “Romanticum” exhibition, the building will also be home to the new Middle Rhine Museum, the Koblenz municipal library and the central office of the Koblenz Tourist Board in the future.

Please note: The Romanticum will of course offer its services in two languages (German and English).  An audio guide system is currently being considered in order to cater for other languages, but no final decision has been taken yet.
